Clinical Studies for Pets

May 24, 2022

Just like humans, our pets can participate in clinical studies with the help of Ethos Discovery! The research done by Ethos Discovery not only helps to improve treatment options for veterinary medicine, but helps further research for human medicine as well! Clinical studies are generally aimed at improving how we diagnose and treat diseases/conditions in patients. This can involve evaluating ways to improve existing tests/treatments or to investigate new tests/treatments to provide solutions to challenges associated with diseases. While the ins and outs of clinical studies may seem overwhelming at first, we’re here to break it down for you and answer some of the most asked questions:

How do clinical studies help our pets?

Clinical studies generate valuable data that is used to improve how patients are cared for. This can include reducing the amount of time that it takes to achieve a diagnosis, making it possible to make a diagnosis where it wasn’t possible before, or developing treatments that will treat a disease better. Patients that are enrolled in these clinical trials have access to new diagnostics/treatments earlier than they would have had they not enrolled!

Are there certain requirements for pets to be accepted?

Each study will have its own unique set of eligibility criteria, depending on the disease or condition that is being investigated. These differing criteria can be viewed on the clinical studies page.

Are there studies for both cats and dogs?

Yes! Ethos Discovery conducts studies for both dogs and cats. These studies are usually species specific. While there are occasionally studies designed for both species, it is not as common.

Why should someone consider a clinical study for their pet?

Clinical studies often give owners the opportunity to gain access to cutting edge diagnostics/treatments that might not otherwise be available to their pet. These studies are often provided to the owner at no cost, which gives access to treatment that may not otherwise be feasible. Trials are usually associated with follow up visits, ensuring that the pet is being monitored closely by the medical team.
